‘With each passing year and with each predictable “crisis,” whether the issue is war, guns, or economic policy, it seems that the level of propaganda becomes more and more infantile each time an agenda is set to unfold. Nowhere is this more evident than with the manufactured crisis in Syria, itself wholly created, directed, and maintained by the Anglo-American, NATO military and intelligence networks.

Indeed, while Assad’s lengthy holdout against the NATO-backed death squads of fundamentalists, dupes, and mercenaries as well as the occasional Western special forces or intelligence agent, may have held the more overt invasion at bay for a short time, it appears that the attempt to engage Syria directly is fast becoming a real possibility.

Thus, pro-war propaganda is being churned up yet again, this time from the reliably pro-imperialist Council on Foreign Relations. In true remedial fashion, the company line comes complete with suggestions of the use of chemical weapons, civilian casualties, and even weapons of mass destruction (WMD).’

Iran and Syria flags combined

‘Since the kindling of the conflict inside Syria in 2011, it was recognized, by friend and foe alike, that the events in that country were tied to a game plan that ultimately targets Iran, Syria’s number one ally. De-linking Syria from Iran and unhinging the Resistance Bloc that Damascus and Tehran have formed has been one of the objectives of the foreign-supported anti-government militias inside Syria. Such a schism between Damascus and Tehran would change the Middle East’s strategic balance in favour of the US and Israel.

If  this cannot be accomplished, however, then crippling Syria to effectively prevent it from providing Iran any form of diplomatic, political, economic, and military support in the face of common threats has been a primary objective. Preventing any continued cooperation between the two republics has been a strategic goal. This includes preventing the Iran-Iraq-Syria energy terminal from being built and ending the military pact between the two partners.

All Options are Aimed at Neutralizing Syria

Regime change in Damascus is not the only or main way for the US and its allies to prevent Syria from standing with Iran. Destabilizing Syria and neutralizing it as a failed and divided state is the key. Sectarian fighting is not a haphazard outcome of the instability in Syria, but an assisted project that the US and its allies have steadily fomented with a clear intent to balkanize the Syrian Arab Republic. Regionally, Israel above all other states has a major stake in securing this outcome. The Israelis actually have several publicly available documents, including the Yinon Plan, which outline that the destruction of Syria into a series of smaller sectarian states is one of their strategic objectives. So do American military planners.’

Bahrain bans protests after cops tear gas & fire on rally (by RussiaToday)

‘Bahraini authorities have banned all protest gatherings amid escalating clashes in the Gulf kingdom. It’s the most sweeping attempt so far to quash anti-regime protests that’ve been going on in the country for nearly two years. The restrictions come after the country’s police reportedly attacked anti-monarchy protesters with tear gas and rubber bullets in the capital Manama on Monday. Clashes in Bahrain occur almost daily, with around 80 people being killed since the unrest began. The country’s under fire from human rights groups for its brutal crackdowns on pro-reform campaigners who are calling for more rights, jobs and education. RT gets more on this from political analyst Sreeram Chaulia.’

A National Transitional Countil (NTC) fighter pulls Libya's former leader Muammar Gaddafi onto a miltary vehicle in Sirte in this still image taken from video shot on October 20, 2011 and released on October 22, 2011 (Reuters/Reuters TV)

‘Libyan rebels abused and mass murdered Colonel Gaddafi, his son Mutassim, and 66 loyalists, after their capture a year ago, Human Rights Watch says. It calls for an investigation and prosecution of those responsible for what they slam as war crime.

The 50-page report “Death of a Dictator: Bloody Vengeance in Sirte” details the last hours of Muammar Gaddafi’s life on October 20, 2011, when he was caught trying to leave the city with his remaining supporters.

HRW admits difficulty in reconstructing the final days of Libya’s ex-leader since “he was surrounded by a small circle of trusted confidants and bodyguards, most of whom were killed in the attempted escape from Sirte,” stated the report.

The report relies heavily on interviews with Mansour Dhao, a senior security official and head of the pro-Gaddafi People’s Guard, and other surviving witnesses of the event. The interviews took place in Libya two days after Gaddafi’s death.’

‘US sanctions on Iran aim at regime change by making civilians suffer’ (by RussiaToday)

‘President Barack Obama has signed an executive order to further tighten the financial screws on Iran and implement a new set of sanctions. And though it’s Tehran’s nuclear program that’s claimed to be in the cross-hairs, Jamal Abdi, policy director for the National Iranian American Council, thinks the real target is ordinary citizens.’

‘Syria has over 15 military airbases, including dedicated airbases located near Aleppo and Damascus. These airbases are generally surrounded by networks of military infrastructure including storage depots, barracks, motor pools, and defensive positions. So much as even denting these facilities would require a standing enemy army, airpower, and armor – something the terrorists operating in Syria with NATO backing currently lack. Even a successful, concentrated attack on a single airbase would make little difference tilting the balance of power in favor of NATO-backed foreign terrorists operating under the banner of the so-called “Free Syrian Army” (FSA).

Puzzling then was an announcement made by NATO terrorists, warning that in 72 hours, starting September 1, 2012, they would begin operations to target Syria’s two international airports, Damascus International, and Aleppo International. The Telegraph would report that NATO’s terrorist front, “warned it would target civilian planes using the airports in Damascus and Aleppo from tomorrow.” The Telegraph would also claim, “it [the FSA] suspected government was using the flights to bring in weapons.” Like all of NATO terrorist claims, no evidence has been provided by either the militants, or the Western press.

The Telegraph has just reported that terrorists are planning to shoot at civilian planes and paralyze civilian flights across the country – a terrorist act by any definition or law.’

‘The US State Department, via the “US Institute of Peace” is working directly with Syrian “opposition” groups to formulate a “government” to put into place, if and when NATO covert military operations succeed in collapsing the Syrian state.

The report written by Foreign Policy magazine titled, “Inside the quiet effort to plan for a post-Assad Syria,” indicates that the US State Department-funded USIP plans on releasing a report soon, detailing the US-crafted government being planned. The USIP, which already publishes details of how it has crafted, created, and is continuing to manage and facilitate the NATO-installed client regime now running Libya, constitutes nothing less than implementation of modern-day imperialism.’

‘The UK government fails to condemn a terrorist attack in Syria, calling instead for international action against the country’s popular government.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said the bombing that killed two top Syrian security officials on Wednesday showed the need for a UN resolution to end the crisis. ”We are aware of reports that the Syrian defence and deputy defence ministers have been killed and a number of others injured by an apparent suicide bombing in Damascus,” Hague said in a statement.’

‘On 19 March 2012, a high French official invited Arab journalists based in Paris to inform them of the internal battle being waged within the French government and, in particular, the Quai d’Orsay [the French Foreign Ministry] regarding Syria. According to this person, the French Ambassador in Damascus, Eric Chevallier, whose embassy had just been shut down and who had returned to Paris, challenged Minister Juppé in front of his colleagues. He accused Alain Juppé of having ignored his embassy reports and of having falsified summaries of them to provoke a war against Syria.’

‘Independent Israeli-based intelligence outlet DEBKAfile are reporting that the US Air Force and Navy are quietly preparing for a “limited air offensive” and a series of no-fly zones against Syria, while their Gulf military sources have confirmed the presence of British special forces across the Turkish border. The Western powers continue to flagrantly ignore international norms and laws while pursing their secret proxy war against Syria, protected only by the appallingly one sided mainstream media.

According to the report the purpose of the US strategy is not to launch an overt attack on Assad (a disastrous PR move), but to quietly turn up the pressure so that high ranking army officers switch sides and hand over their leader without conflict; thus painting the picture that Syrians are the ones deciding their own fate. It’s thought that this tactic is only possible because of Russia’s recent acknowledgment that they’d support “the departure of President Bashar al-Assad if Syrians agreed to it.”[1] So it would seem that the US want to covertly help along this Syrian agreement. This is not to say that Russia are naive to the detail of the proxy war, but on the international stage, the media portrayal is everything. As long as it appears that it was just a Syrian affair, and the US deny any involvement, then as far as the world is concerned that’s the truth.

Meanwhile the involvement of British Special Forces has reportedly increased beyond the role of managing supply lines on the Turkey/Syria border. According to the report, Gulf military sources confirmed the presence of British special forces in Syria itself, something long speculated, while unconfirmed reports from British, French and Turkish sources claim they have advanced up to 10 kilometers inside the country. DEBKAfile suggest this is part of a strategy to secure a stepping stone of safe zones further and further in to Syria in order to facilitate a more efficient route for mercenaries and foreign arms.

As noted by former CIA officer Philip Giraldi, since at least January [2]: “Unmarked NATO warplanes [have been] arriving at Turkish military bases close to Iskenderum on the Syrian border, delivering weapons from the late Muammar Gaddafi’s arsenals as well as volunteers from the Libyan Transitional National Council who are experienced in pitting local volunteers against trained soldiers, a skill they acquired confronting Gaddafi’s army.”

A rare admission by US officials (albeit as a limited hangout to deny any wrongdoing) came in the New York Times last week. They reported that “A small number of C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey, helping allies decide which Syrian opposition fighters across the border will receive arms to fight the Syrian government.” The ridiculous claim being that they’re trying to prevent Al Qaeda from getting the weapons.

The brazen immorality here is two-fold. Firstly what is the CIA doing helping arm the Syrian rebels in the first place? The US congress has not declared any war, the UN has not passed any resolution, and the implication of physically supporting one side of the civil war means they’re advocating the murder of innocent pro-Assad civilians. Regardless of what the BBC or CNN imply, hundreds of thousands of Syrian citizens, if not far far more support the Syrian government [3].

Secondly if the US acknowledge that Al Qaeda are among the ranks of the rebels it makes the whole conflict a lot more complicated than they portray to the masses. Assad has always maintained that early violence was instigated by terrorists. If that’s the case, the West is now supporting the terrorist side of the conflict (regardless of whether they claim to be vetting weapon deployments). Where exactly does that leave the decade long war on terror? What happens when the Assad regime is overthrown, do Al Qaeda just disappear? If the ordinary Syrian opposition wanted freedom and democracy, they’re not going to get it with religious fundamentalists in their ranks. Take a look at liberated Lybia, now ruled under Sharia law by Al Qaeda linked militants [4].

Of course lets stop giving them the benefit of the doubt, the Western powers are aware of all this. It’s their modus-operandi. Since the late 70s the CIA and British Intelligence have been playing Al Qaeda like chess pieces in conflicts all around the world. Their support for the fundamentalists in the Soviet/Afghan war gave birth to Al Qaeda. They continued to support the extremists during the 90s conflict in the Balkans [5]. NATO were working with Al Qaeda linked rebels to overthrow Gaddafi in Lybia. Syria is just the next victim of a long line of proxy wars, where the West has used Al Qaeda as pawns. Perhaps the ultimate goal once again is to stir up a hornets nest with Russia.’

‘Sources say at least 200-300 private security company employees are captured beside hundreds of foreign military and service personnel during the last 14 months of foreign terror provocation. Among them are Portuguese nationals, who are paratroopers – and about whom Syria is asking itself how they entered the country. During interrogation they claimed to have retired from army duty, which somehow contradicts in some cases how old they look. Sources add, that some of those foreign officials somehow settled in the region at least months before they started their terror campaign.

Also 40-60 Germans are in Syrian custody, said the officials. According to these sources, the Germans were caught red-handed on the Syrian coastline as they were smuggling weapons supplies for the insurgents into Syria.’

‘Syrian armed gangs operating in the flashpoint city of Homs have threatened to start killing civilians if the Army refuses to leave.

Officials say up to 5,000 civilians have been taken hostage by armed gangs in Homs, where the gunmen are attacking both private and public properties. The sound of gun-fire and explosions could be heard from the city on Wednesday. The army has reportedly halted its operations to avoid civilian casualties there.’
