Nabeel_Rajab

‘The ruling Al Khalifa monarchy is one of the world’s most brutal dictatorships. It’s also a valued US ally. Bahrain is home to America’s Fifth Fleet.

Imperial priorities matter most. Washington backs Bahraini harshness. State terror is policy. Murder, torture, lawless imprisonments, and daily atrocities get tacit support.

Bahrain ruthlessly wages war on freedom. Fundamental human and civil rights are spurned. Activists, protesters, medical professionals treating them when injured, independent journalists, and others supporting right over might are brutalized and imprisoned.

Nabeel Rajab is one of Bahrain’s best. He’s a prominent human rights leader. Activism got him targeted. His resume includes many impressive credentials. In 1999, he and others co-founded the Bahrain Human Rights Society.

In 2002, he, Abdulhadi Alkhawaja, and others co-founded the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR). Authorities terrorized its members for years. Nonetheless, it remains viable.

It promotes civil, political, and economic freedom, ending racial discrimination, and universal human and civil rights. Bahraini despots equate these principles with terrorism.

Last August, Bahrain’s Lower Criminal Court sentenced Nabeel to three years in prison. Supporting right over wrong in the emirate is dangerous. Expressing democratic views is criminalized. So is championing social justice publicly.

King Hamad calls peaceful protests “foreign plots.” Nabeel and others like him put their lives on the line for years. Bahraini activists face arrests, harsh interrogations, torture, and imprisonment. The mainstream media largely ignores it.’

Bahrain bans protests after cops tear gas & fire on rally (by RussiaToday)

‘Bahraini authorities have banned all protest gatherings amid escalating clashes in the Gulf kingdom. It’s the most sweeping attempt so far to quash anti-regime protests that’ve been going on in the country for nearly two years. The restrictions come after the country’s police reportedly attacked anti-monarchy protesters with tear gas and rubber bullets in the capital Manama on Monday. Clashes in Bahrain occur almost daily, with around 80 people being killed since the unrest began. The country’s under fire from human rights groups for its brutal crackdowns on pro-reform campaigners who are calling for more rights, jobs and education. RT gets more on this from political analyst Sreeram Chaulia.’

(via No Cuts! Tens of thousands turnout for British anti-austerity protests (VIDEO) — RT)

‘Nurses, teachers and off duty policemen marched with anti-war activists, politicians and the unemployed in a massive protest against the Conservative led Government’s austerity measures, which they say are killing Britain.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in the demonstrations, which was led by a group of jobless young people. More than 250 coaches brought people to London to take part. There were similar protests in Belfast and Glasgow.

Protesters blew whistles and held up flags and banners as they marched though central London. One homemade banner read, ‘Cameron has butchered Britain’.  Other banners read ‘cut war not welfare’, and ‘need before greed’.

RT’s correspondent in London, Sara Firth, who watched the march and spoke to some of the protesters, said that cuts to the NHS and the police force were the areas that people were most concerned about.

“People have turned out here today from all walks of life. Families and all age groups are being affected by this,” She said.

The cuts have severely affected the police force, the National Health Service (NHS) and the armed forces.

One demonstrator told RT why he was marching, “We want our children to have a good education and good health care, this is what my grandmother who was a suffragette – [the women who fought for the female vote in Britain] – actually fought for and my father spent six years in north Africa fighting for a decent country and this government is going to destroy it.”

There was a strong trade union presence at all the three nationwide events.

The head of the Trade Union’s Congress (TUC) Brendan Barber said that the message from the protesters is that austerity isn’t working.

“The government doesn’t understand the pain that their cuts and their economic program are having in communities up and down the country. And the government needs to swallow its pride and go for plan B, because Plan A just isn’t working.”

Dave Prentis, the leader of Unison, Britain’s biggest public sector trade union, told RT.

Barber and other union leaders have called for a general strike and further protests to hammer home their message to the government.

Other groups involved in the protest included the Stop the War Coalition and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, which has slammed the government for what it says are “disastrous” implications for public services financing by committing tens of billions of pounds to a new nuclear weapons system.

In a rally in Hyde Park, which took place after the march, Labour leader Ed Milliband took to the stage saying that if elected his party would

“stand for all the young people in the country who want to work in Britain but cannot find it today.”

Police Provocateurs During Spanish Austerity Protests (by thepaulstalservice)

‘Police Provocateurs being used in Spanish Austerity protests (and other protests around the world that speak out about the globalists) These are corrupt police officers, who incite violence and dress like anarchists in order to facilitate the protests being shut down.

Police provocateurs were seen in the London riots, during the SPP protets in Montbello, Quebec, even during the Occupy LA protests, they must be exposed. We are living in a global state of corruption- the elite are paying these people to hold the rest of society down.

Funny how the news never seems to report on this isn’t it?’

Islamic Scholar Tariq Ramadan on Growing Mideast Protests and “Islam & the Arab Awakening” The Killing of The US ambassador to Libya has Nothing to do with the Anti-Islam Film (by democracynow)

‘As anti-U.S. protests spread across the Middle East, we’re joined by Tariq Ramadan, Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University and Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Qatar. Ramadan is considered one of the most prominent Muslim intellectuals in Europe and was named by Time Magazine as one of the most important innovators of the 21st century. He was barred from entering the United States for many years by former president, George W. Bush. In 2004, Ramadan had accepted a job to become a tenured professor at the University of Notre Dame, but nine days before he was set to arrive, the Bush administration revoked his visa, invoking a provision of the USA PATRIOT Act. He was not allowed into the United States for another six years. Ramadan is the author of a number of books, including “Radical Reform, Islamic Ethics and Liberation” and most recently, “Islam and the Arab Awakening.”’

‘The US ambassador to Libya, John Christopher Stevens, and three embassy staff employees were killed in a bombing of the Benghazi consulate. Based on alleged outrage concerning a Zionist-sponsored film, Islamic gunmen stormed the embassy and set fire to the consulate.

US officials are asserting that Stevens and three others who died in the embassy bombing were the victims of a planned attack with the use of al-Qaeda, the CIA-controlled terrorist group. Rumors about the bombing being retaliatory against the death of a Libyan member of al-Qaeda are a cover-story.

House Representative Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee stated that there is evidence that this was a “well-armed, well-coordinated event. It had both indirect and direct fire, and it had military maneuvers that were all part of this very organized attack.”

Al-Qaeda has been used by the US to create many disturbances, fake revolutions and false flag attacks. The latest is the recruitment, training and assembly of the Free Syrian Army which are coordinated on CIA-controlled bases in Turkey, and sent over the Syrian border to be monitored by al-Qaeda for the benefit of the US government.’

Ian Tomlinson on ground

‘PC Simon Harwood has been found not guilty of the manslaughter of Ian Tomlinson at the 2009 G20 protest. As Tomlinson walked home from work, hands in his pockets, Harwood hit him with a baton and shoved him to the ground. The court has seen footage of Harwood’s attack on Tomlinson, who is seen walking away from the police line. As a female officer steps forward to talk to Tomlinson, Harwood passes two police dogs in order to hit and push Tomlinson to the ground. Tomlinson barely has enough time to take his hands out of his pockets to protect himself as he falls. He died shortly afterwards.

Harwood told the court that his actions were justifiable within the context of the widespread disorder of that day, and the jury heard conflicting medical evidence on whether Harwood’s attack had caused Tomlinson’s death.

The Human Rights Act guarantees everyone the right to life. In practice, this has been interpreted as requiring the state to investigate deaths linked to the authorities and hold accountable those responsible for unlawful killings. In spite of this guarantee, in reality, it has proved well nigh impossible to hold anyone accountable for deaths in which police officers may be implicated. No police officer has been convicted of manslaughter for a crime committed while on duty since 1986, though since then hundreds have died in police custody or after contact with the police.

Time and again, the CPS has proved unwilling to prosecute police officers. More than 1,000 people have died in police custody since the 1960s (more than 300 between 1999 and 2010) and in only one case, in 1969, has a police officer been convicted. Instead, the families of those killed are forced to take on the state. It is only as a result of the pressure his family put on the government that an inquest into the death of Ian Tomlinson took place.’

Shaking Spain: ‘Take away people’s food & homes - expect violence’ (by RussiaToday)

‘Police have used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse angry protesters thronging the streets of Spain. Dozens of people were injured and a number of activists detained during the latest nationwide anti-austerity demonstrations. In a major show of strength, hundreds of thousands have been taking part in the protests. People marched in 80 cities across the country to protest against more suffocating austerity which is to come. That’s after the German Parliament gave the green light to the 100-billion Euro bailout for the country’s battered banks. The EU’s finance ministers are now expected to approve the conditions for the financial lifeline to Madrid. Carlos Delclos, a sociologist at Pompeu Fabra University, believes the situation in Spain is only going to go from bad to worse.’

‘With the British Queen and her family in the lead barge of a 1000-boat flotilla on the Thames, marking her 60th year on the throne, republican demonstrators have gathered on the banks of the Thames to protest “the hereditary system” in Britain, which they consider as an offence to “all democratic values”.

Reports by the protesters posted on the Twitter profile of the anti-monarchy campaign Republic say “over a thousand protesters” are on Tooley Street which runs past Tower Bridge on the Southwark/Bermondsey side of the Thames.

“We were told the pageant wouldn’t cost taxpayers a penny. Now the bill is £3.5m, excluding security,” Republic posted on Twitter.’
