Aleister Crowley, Jack Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard

‘Thanks to high-profile members such as Tom Cruise, Will Smith and John Travolta, the Church of Scientology has been receiving great visibility and a whole lot of money from its eight million members worldwide. Although most have heard of Scientology, not many know about its founder L. Ron Hubbard and his past as a member of Aleister Crowley’s secret society Ordo Templi Orientis (known as the O.T.O). Hubbard was a high level initiate of Crowley’s occult order and actively participated in sex magick rituals in order to engender a “Moonchild”.

A new study published in the academic journal Nova Religio explores the link between the O.T.O and Hubbard’s Dianetics, the doctrine of Scientology. According to the study’s author professor Hugh Urban, L. Ron Hubbard’s Dianetics was highly influenced by Crowley’s occult teachings – many of its concepts were simply recycled and renamed for the purpose of Scientology. Scientology and Crowley’s Thelema are however far from equivalent but, as the study reveals, Hubbard was a firm believe of Crowley’s occult theories and used them to grant his wishes and to propel his own cult.

Ron Hubbard, Aleister Crowley, and the Origins of a Controversial New Religion, is not freely available (its a paid download) but the following article from Village Voice does a great job summing it up and vulgarizing it. The more serious readers might find the article a little too “vulgarized” but there is still interesting information in there.’

‘The untimely death of Brittany Murphy at the age of 32 is another one of these strange celebrity death cases where “investigations” simply do not provide satisfactory answers. Like many other cases, Brittany appeared in symbolic images alluding to occult societies and mind control before her death. Here are some examples.

Brittany Murphy’s Dad Suing Over Autopsy Report

The man claiming to be the biological father of late actress Brittany Murphy is challenging the results of her autopsy in a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Angelo Bertolotti claims “testing/toxicology was incomplete and the death of Brittany Anne Murphy Monjak was never fully investigated.”

Bertolotti, who is also suing the Los Angeles Police Department, has requested samples of his daughter’s hair for testing.

“I’m not going to rest until my daughter’s untimely demise is properly investigated, which hasn’t happened so far. Her case deserves more than a superficial glance,” Bertolotti said in a press release quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.’

‘One of the first articles published on this site was Sinister Sites – St. John the Divine Cathedral, where I’ve described the building’s occult symbolism and its role in the United Nations’ efforts to push a single world religion. Probably the most shocking part of that article was the pictures of the columns, conceived in 1997, depicting the destruction of New York city (including the Twin Towers). The Church was named after St. John the Divine, the author of the Book of Revelation.

The original article showed only two of these columns (the others were not visible at the time I took the pics). Since then however, the other pillars are visible and their symbolism is as esoteric and mysterious as those originally posted. Here they are (in no particular order).

Posted in the original article on St. John the Divine, this pillar depicts an apocalyptic New York city being engulfed by enormous waves.

Also posted in the original article, this column depicts the destruction of the Brooklyn Bridge. Underneath is the New York stock market and people trading goods. Is this a reference to the Babylon of the Revelation?

Horsemen of the Apocalypse?

A scene depicting a birth from some kind of flower, surrounded by mummies and above a lamb with its legs tied. Who is being born? Is the Anti-Christ who is said by the Book of Revelation to the beast “coming up out of the earth; and had two horns like a lamb“? Underneath is a spiral vortex (symbolizing change of consciousness?) and people apparently praising or worshipping the figure.

Pillar with the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. The Book of Revelation is said to be encoded with Kabbalistic numerology to reveal its esoteric meaning.

The man above the Tree of Life is also uncharacteristic for a Cathedral. It is one-eyed (see the Eye of Horus) and wears a huge clear quartz amulet, which is said to have magical and metaphysical properties.

Little to no documentation exists about the meaning of the pillars and the rest of the Cathedral contains a lot of art with strange symbolism alluding to catastrophe and a new era. Strange place.’

‘During the last years, a new trend appeared in Hollywood: secret societies being at the center of movie intrigues. Some might find this surprising since secret societies are supposed to be…well…secret. Many people in the movie industry are part of those Brotherhoods so what is the reasoning behind this? We’ll look at the myth Hollywood is trying to create by examining “National Treasure” and “Angels and Demons”.

A decade ago, movies about Freemasonry or the Illuminati were rare and far apart (see here a nice list of Masonic references in movies). There has however been a major switch during the last decade. The world wide public has witnessed major blockbuster movies featuring those Brotherhoods at the center of the story. Their exoteric symbols are abundantly displayed and some of their history is even explained. Why are those societies exposing themselves to the average movie goers, who, for the most part aren’t even aware of their existence? Isn’t secrecy an important requisite for the survival of those orders?

I believe an important change is taking place in the communication strategies of these elite societies. The advent of the digital age, where any individual can create and publish content has rendered the secrecy of such organizations impossible. Self-published websites, books, documentaries, DVDs and other medias have exposed many secrets of Masonry and other orders. Information which could only be found in rare and exclusive books is now a Google search away. I have encountered some Masons who were astonished by the level of knowledge possessed by the ”profane”. Those types of Masonic scholars, who aren’t actually initiated into the Brotherhood, were very rare not too long ago.

Since the digital switch is irreversible (and completed), occult orders have adapted their strategy to this new context (they’ve probably saw this coming years ago). The strategy is : “If they have to know about us, we’ll tell them what to know“. Through Hollywood and best-selling books, secret societies are being introduced to the average Joe but with one BIG condition: the public is given a distorted, caricatured and romantic portrayal of secret societies. We are introducing in pop culture a mythical lore around secret societies, associating them with fascinating symbols, treasures hunts and exotic adventures. The viewers believe they are actually learning facts about Freemasonry or the Illuminati and they leave the movies with a sense of wonder, fascination and admiration. Those feelings are however based on totally erroneous facts, dubious explanations and fairy tale story telling. After viewing those movies, the viewer has a positive predisposition concerning those orders and will be less inclined to believe and research conspiracies related to them.’
