Don’t Talk to the Police

I recently got illegally (almost certain, but it’s a legal grey area I’m sure) searched the other day (on my way to ATL) in Louisiana after getting pulled over for speeding. The cop ran my identification (even though I wasn’t the one driving, and therefore not the one who broke the law…but I provided my ID to him because he asked, and I wasn’t sure if I had to according to state law. In Texas you don’t have to provide your ID to a cop if he asks for it, but you can’t lie about who you are obviously.) which I knew was a completely out-of-line and aggressive act that could only mean he was looking to do more than just give my friend a speeding ticket and let us be on our way.

He saw my “criminal” record and decided to fuck with us: asked to searched the car, we said no, so they brought out a dog. The dog alerted at the end of the car where my friend’s insulin was….they took over an hour searching the entire car and found nothing. They didn’t even seem to care that my friend’s insulin needed to be in A/C or else it would spoil….oh and they also tried to say that I had traces of weed in my briefcase….I knew it was bullshit but that there was also a slim possibility that there might have been something questionable amongst my week’s worth of sloppy packing, but nay— all I found after the fact was some broken cigarettes in it so it was obviously just tobacco. I pretty much used my right to remain silent the entire time, which pissed them off more but I knew they were trying to arrest me however they could so I figured it would be better to have a good legal case than it would have been trying to appease them and MAYBE getting a lucky break. Because I would be so fucking lucky for a cop to allude me my freedom after threatening to put me in a cage….wait who’s the one with the gun? oh yeah, that’s right. the police’s only means of control is through violence but somehow I’m lucky to have not been forcibly incarcerated for merely being alive.

ANYWAY good video for learning your rights. oh, you should. by the way, know your rights if you don’t already. cops hardly ever know the law…which can lead to all kinds of illegitimate and illegal shit in direct violation of your rights, wrongful arrests and what have you— unless you know what’s up!
